This page is the ultimate rail network service for a Metro Manila commuter that includes station maps, platforms, fares, schedules.
Rail-based travel in Metro Manila explained through MRT LRT logic—when rail wins, when it fails, and how it anchors routes.

MRT LRT: The Three Rail Axes Guide
In Metro Manila, rail is not optional infrastructure. It’s the only system that ignores surface chaos.
This page explains MRT LRT lines as a strategic backbone—what they’re good at, what they’re bad at, and how every smart route decision starts by checking rail first.
Choose your line:
⚠️ Operator’s Note (2026): MRT-7 is currently in “Partial Operations” from the North Avenue Common Station up to the Sacred Heart/Quirino area.
Full service to Bulacan is expected by late 2026.

Important Last-Mile Connections
- PITX Station:
- This is now the most critical transfer point for those heading further south to Cavite (Bacoor, Imus, Dasmariñas) or Batangas.
- The station connects directly to the massive PITX terminal building.
- Gil Puyat Station:
- The “Bus Central” for South Luzon.
- Buses to Laguna (Sta. Rosa/Calamba) and Batangas (Lipa/Lemery) are located just steps from the station.
- Doroteo Jose / Recto:
- Use the covered walkway to transfer to LRT-2 if you are heading east towards University Belt (FEU, UE), Cubao, or Antipolo.
- Airport Access:
- While MIA Road is the closest station to the airport, it is not “inside” the terminal.
- You will need to take a dedicated shuttle or a short taxi/Grab ride to reach NAIA Terminals 1 and 2. For Terminal 3, the EDSA Station to a Newport Jeep/Bus is often better.
Key Takeaways
Elevation: The Marikina-Pasig and Antipolo stations are very high. The view of the Marikina Valley during sunset is one of the best “free” sights in the city.
The Underground Station: Katipunan is the only underground station in the entire system. It can get very humid on the platform, so stay hydrated.
University Jeeps: If going to UP Diliman, alight at Katipunan, walk under the flyover to the “UP-Katipunan” jeepney terminal.
Less Crowded: Compared to MRT LRT-1, the LRT-2 is generally less “packed,” making it a much more comfortable ride during off-peak hours.
- Old vs. New Trains:
- You will see a mix of generations.
- The newest “4th Generation” trains (with red/blue accents) have better air conditioning and wider windows.
- Northbound Strategy:
- If you are boarding at EDSA heading North during rush hour, it is often faster to take a Southbound train to Baclaran or Dr. Santos first to “reserve” a seat for the return trip.
- Safety:
- LRT-1 passes through some of the busiest (and occasionally “gritty”) parts of Manila.
- Keep your bags in front of you, especially at Carriedo, Doroteo Jose, and Baclaran stations.
LRT-2 Purple Line
- LRT-2 (East–West Connector)
- Links Manila core to QC
- Student-heavy demand
- Critical for Sampaloc ↔ Cubao flow This is the education and transfer line.
- Fares
- Minimum ₱13, +₱1/km. End-to-end (Recto-Antipolo): ₱33.
- Single-journey: +₱1–2.
- Discounts: Seniors/PWD/Students 20% off. Full matrix available on lrta.gov.ph.
- Schedules
- Daily 5:00 AM–9:30 PM (Recto eastbound last 9:30 PM; Antipolo westbound last 9:00 PM).
- Weekdays: 5–8 min headway; Weekends: 8 min. Special hours announced via PA system/lrta.gov.ph.

Travel Essentials
- Beep Card Reloading:
- Many kiosks may have long lines or be offline today; try reloading via GCash or the Beep app before arriving at the station.
- Safety:
- Holiday crowds are heavy. Keep your bags in front of you and be mindful of your belongings in crowded areas like Divisoria (via Recto) or SM North (via North Ave).
- Safe commute – MRT-3 remains a core EDSA lifeline. Verify always, especially Rush Hours or weather.
- Alternative:
- If you miss the last train tonight, the EDSA Carousel Bus runs 24/7 along the MRT-3 route.
- Verify timelines via https://www.lrta.gov.ph/
