Street Logic: Hubs & Gateways Guides

This section documents the physical infrastructure where different transit modes intersect. These are the “Operational Anchors” of the metropolis.

These are modern, multi-level facilities designed for intermodal transfers.

  • PITX (Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange): The primary gateway for Southbound (Cavite, Batangas) provincial buses and City Bus connections.
  • One Ayala (Makati): The central hub for Southbound EDSA Carousel buses, P2P buses, and the MRT-3 Ayala Station.
  • North Triangle Common Station: The convergence point for MRT-3, LRT-1, and the future Metro Manila Subway and MRT-7.

High-density areas with multiple scattered terminals requiring manual navigation.

  • Cubao (Araneta City): A fragmented hub consisting of the LRT-2/MRT-3 interchange, the Araneta Center Bus Port, and various provincial bus terminals along EDSA.
  • Pasay-Taft: A high-friction transfer point between the MRT-3 Taft Station, LRT-1 EDSA Station, and provincial bus lines to Bicol and Southern Luzon.
  • Monumento (Caloocan): The northern anchor for the LRT-1 and the starting point for the EDSA Carousel, connecting to Malabon and Valenzuela.

Crucial points where commuters switch train lines via footbridges.

  • Recto-Doroteo Jose: The critical link between LRT-2 (East-West) and LRT-1 (North-South).
  • Cubao (LRT-2/MRT-3): A long-distance walking transfer through Gateway Mall and Farmers Plaza.
  • Magallanes (MRT-3/PNR): The connection between the elevated metro and the at-grade Philippine National Railways (PNR) line.

MRT/LRT

The primary terminal for the South and the nexus of the MRT-3. Centered around One Ayala, it is the city’s most structured multi-modal interchange.

  • Bonifacio Global City (BGC): A high-security, privately managed district. Access is defined by the dedicated BGC Bus system and specialized “Point-to-Point” (P2P) routes.
  • Ortigas Center: A “Boundary Hub” straddling three cities. It serves as the main stop for the EDSA Carousel and G-Liner/RRCG bus lines serving the East (Rizal).
  • Bay City (MOA Complex): A massive reclamation district and tourism node. It serves as the southern anchor for the EDSA Carousel and the primary hub for UV Express trips to Cavite.
  • Filinvest City (Alabang): The “Gateway to the South.” Centered around South Station and Starmall, it is the critical transfer point for commuters heading to Laguna and Batangas.

The national center for consular affairs. Due to its proximity to PITX and NAIA, it is a high-stakes destination requiring precise timing.

  • U.S. Embassy Manila: A high-security corridor along Roxas Boulevard. Access is governed by strict “No-Loading” zones, making the UN Avenue LRT-1 station the primary pedestrian gateway.
  • PSA East Avenue: The central repository for civil documents. Located in the Quezon City “Government Row,” it is best accessed via the MRT-3 GMA-Kamuning corridor.
  • NBI Main Office: A high-volume clearance center in Ermita. It serves as a major pedestrian destination linked to the LRT-1 United Nations station.
  • PRC (Morayta/Satellite Hubs): The professional licensing center. The Morayta branch is the heart of the “University Belt” transit flow, supported by mall-based satellite offices.

  • St. Luke’s Medical Center (BGC/QC): Premier medical hubs. The BGC branch is integrated into the BGC Bus loop, while the QC branch is a major stop along the E. Rodriguez jeepney artery.
  • The Medical City (Ortigas): A primary medical landmark on Ortigas Avenue, serving as a critical stop for buses and UV Express units traveling between Manila and Rizal.
  • Philippine General Hospital (PGH): The country’s largest tertiary hospital. It is a high-density transit node directly served by the LRT-1 Pedro Gil station.
  • Makati Medical Center: A major health hub on the edge of the CBD. Access is defined by the specialized Washington-Ayala jeepney route and Ayala Avenue bus stops.
  • QC Medical Hub (East Ave): A concentrated zone containing the Philippine Heart, Lung, and Kidney Centers, forming a specialized transit sub-sector in Quezon City.

  • SM North EDSA / North Towers: The dominant northern transit anchor. It serves as the future “Grand Central” linking the MRT-3, MRT-7, and LRT-1.
  • Trinoma / Vertis North: A primary transport interchange directly integrated with the MRT-3 North Avenue station and P2P bus terminals.
  • Araneta City (Cubao): The historic crossroads of Metro Manila. It is the only hub that directly connects the MRT-3 and LRT-2 rail lines
  • Divisoria (Tutuban/Lucky Chinatown): The country’s commercial trading center. A high-volume destination for jeepneys, night markets, and the PNR Tutuban station.
  • SM Mall of Asia (MOA): A lifestyle and transit terminus that serves as the southern turnaround for the EDSA Carousel and the Manila Bay ferry system.

  • Embassy of Japan: A key diplomatic node on Roxas Boulevard, requiring specific knowledge of the Pasay-Manila boundary transit stops.
  • Embassy of South Korea (BGC): Located in the McKinley Hill/BGC area, this hub is accessed via the specialized C5-Market! Market! transport loop.
  • Asian Development Bank (ADB): A major international landmark in Ortigas, serving as a primary pedestrian anchor for the Ortigas MRT and EDSA bus stops.

  • The University Belt (U-Belt): A high-density student corridor in Manila. It is anchored by the LRT-2 Recto and LRT-1 Doroteo Jose “Cross-Over” stations.
  • Kalaw Avenue (Seaman’s/ofw Hub): The maritime heart of the Philippines. This area is the primary recruitment and transit node for the country’s sea-based workforce.
  • POEA / DMW (Ortigas): The essential hub for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), situated at the critical intersection of EDSA and Ortigas Avenue.

These are high-density housing zones where commuters start their day. They often feature 24/7 convenience stores and “waiting sheds” that never empty.

  • Poblacion (Makati): Historically a heritage district, now the primary hub for hostels and transient stays. Transit is defined by narrow streets where e-trikes and Grab are more effective than buses.
  • University Belt Dormitory Row: The high-concentration housing zone around Sampaloc and Quiapo. Access is dominated by the LRT-2 Legarda and Recto stations.
  • Katipunan / Varsity Hills: A residential and student hub for Northern Manila. It serves as the primary “drop-off” point for those living in the hills of Antipolo or Marikina.
  • BGC North (Uptown/Veritown): The newest high-rise residential cluster. It is a critical “Last Mile” destination for the Uptown Link buses and motorcycle taxi bookings.

These hubs require specific transit knowledge because they peak when the MRT/LRT are closed. You must document “Night Shift” transport here.

  • Tomas Morato / Timog (QC): The entertainment heart of Quezon City. Since there is no direct train, navigation is centered around the “Project 2-3” jeepney loops and the GMA-Kamuning MRT station.
  • Poblacion (The “Backstreet” Node): The nightlife center of Makati. It is a “Dead Zone” for large buses; commuters must master the Makati Loop jeepney or the walk from MRT Ayala.
  • Newport City (Resorts World): The primary leisure hub adjacent to NAIA Terminal 3. It is unique for its “Runway Manila” footbridge, allowing pedestrian access directly to the airport.
  • The Fort Strip / Bonifacio High Street: The primary high-end recreational spine. Transit logic here revolves around the “BGC Night Bus” which operates on a limited schedule after midnight.
  • Metrowalk / Ortigas Home Depot: A major nightlife pocket in Pasig. It is a critical node for those taking UV Express trips heading East (Cainta/Taytay) late at night.

  • Pasig River Ferry Stations: Operational documentation for the Guadalupe, Escolta, and Hulo ferry terminals.
  • NAIA Terminals (1-4): Transit data for airport loop buses and the “Ube Express” premium shuttle service.
  • North Harbor (Manila North Port): The nation’s primary domestic maritime gateway. This hub manages the flow of thousands of passengers traveling via inter-island ferries and is accessed via specialized jeepney routes from Divisoria and the R-10 road corridor.
