→ Standard fare from Cubao to Bontoc ranges from PHP 600 to PHP 800 for regular buses. Anyone quoting PHP 1,200 or more for a one-way ticket is overcharging unless you are booking during peak holiday surcharges or special premium services.
Fake “express” or “special trip” offers:
→ Avoid individuals outside Coda Lines or D’Rising Sun terminals offering “faster” or “special” trips to Bontoc at inflated rates. These are not official operators. Use only buses parked inside designated terminal bays with visible company branding and official ticketing counters.
Colorum buses and vans:
→ Do not board unmarked buses or vans claiming to go to Bontoc. Colorum (unregistered) vehicles operate without proper insurance and have no accountability for passenger safety, schedules, breakdowns, or road emergencies on mountain routes.
Better option:
→ Always enter the official bus terminal (Coda Lines or D’Rising Sun terminals in Cubao). Purchase tickets at the counter inside the terminal. Confirm the departure time and bus type. Keep your ticket and baggage claim stub. Coda Lines is the most established operator for Mountain Province routes.
Mountain road conditions:
→ The route to Bontoc involves winding mountain roads, particularly along Halsema Highway (Baguio to Bontoc section). During the rainy season (June–October) or after typhoons, landslides and road damage are common. Buses may experience delays of 1–3 hours or more. Operators rarely cancel trips unless roads are completely impassable.

Route: Cubao → Direct Overnight Bus → Bontoc, Mountain Province
Step 1: Go to Coda Lines Terminal or D’Rising Sun Terminal in Cubao
From anywhere in Cubao, proceed to the bus terminal serving Mountain Province routes.
Coda Lines Terminal is located along EDSA near the Farmer’s Plaza and Gateway Mall area. This is the most established operator for Bontoc and Mountain Province destinations. Walking distance from Cubao LRT-2 Station or Araneta Center-Cubao Station is approximately 5–10 minutes.
D’Rising Sun Terminal is also located in the Cubao area along EDSA. Confirm the exact terminal location when booking, as some bus companies share terminal spaces or operate from nearby bays.
Ask locals, security guards, or jeepney drivers for directions to “Coda Lines terminal” or “bus to Bontoc” if you are unfamiliar with the area.
Step 2: Purchase ticket at the counter
Enter the terminal and proceed to the ticketing counter. Inform the staff of your destination (“Bontoc po”). Buses to Bontoc typically depart in the evening between 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM to arrive early morning the following day.
Fare ranges from PHP 600 to PHP 800 for regular buses. Some operators may offer slightly higher-priced buses with better seating or fewer stops.
Advance booking is strongly recommended. Tickets can be purchased 1–3 days in advance at the terminal or via phone reservation with some operators. During peak seasons (Holy Week, Christmas, long weekends, summer months from March to May), buses fill up quickly.
Walk-in tickets on the day of travel are possible but risky during busy periods.

Some buses make a brief stop in Baguio City for passengers to disembark or board.

Bring your own snacks and water as rest stop food is limited and prices are higher.
Halsema Highway conditions:
This section of the journey involves narrow, winding mountain roads with steep drop-offs and sharp curves.
The road is scenic but challenging, especially at night.

Step 5: Arrive in Bontoc

There are no cheaper alternatives via public transport that do not involve significantly longer travel times or unsafe conditions.
🕒 Time-first: Fly to Loakan Airport (Baguio), then bus/van to Bontoc
For travelers prioritizing time, consider flying from Manila (NAIA) to Loakan Airport in Baguio via chartered flights (subject to availability and weather).
From Baguio, take a bus or van to Bontoc via Halsema Highway (3–4 hours).
This option reduces total travel time to approximately 5–6 hours but is significantly more expensive (PHP 5,000+ for the flight alone).
Flights to Loakan are limited, weather-dependent, and not always available.
This is a fallback option for urgent travel only.
🪑 Comfort-first: Private Van Hire (Fallback only)
Private van hire from Cubao or Manila to Bontoc costs approximately PHP 15,000–25,000 for a full van (up to 10–14 passengers).
Travel time is similar to the bus (8–10 hours) as the route and road conditions are the same.
This option is only practical for large groups, families, or organized tours where the cost can be split among many passengers.

Buses to Manila/Cubao typically depart in the evening (similar schedules to the outbound trip, around 8:00 PM–10:00 PM) to arrive in Cubao early the following morning.
Critical: Book your return ticket in advance. Buses from Bontoc to Manila are limited in number and fill up quickly, especially during weekends, end of long holidays, or peak travel seasons.
Purchase your return ticket 1–2 days before your intended departure date, or inquire about booking your return ticket at the same time you purchase your outbound ticket in Cubao (some operators allow this).
If buses are fully booked, alternative options include traveling from Bontoc to Baguio first (via jeepney or van, approximately 3–4 hours, PHP 200–300), then taking a more frequent bus from Baguio to Manila. However, this adds complexity and additional travel time.
Last buses from Bontoc to Manila typically depart around 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
Confirm exact schedules at the terminal upon arrival in Bontoc or when purchasing your return ticket.
Avoid scheduling your return trip on Sunday evenings or the last day of long weekends, as these are the busiest times and buses may be fully booked or delayed.
The “Surrender” Point: If you are in Maligcong, you must leave the village by 12:00 PM to ensure you catch the last jeepney down to Bontoc in time for the Manila bus.

Limited bus schedules: Unlike Baguio or other popular destinations, buses to Bontoc operate only one or two departures per day, typically in the evening. Missing your bus means waiting until the next day’s departure. Always confirm schedules in advance and arrive at the terminal early.
Advance booking is essential: During peak travel seasons (Holy Week, Christmas/New Year, summer months from March to May, and long weekends), buses to Bontoc are fully booked days or even a week in advance.
Book as early as possible.
Walk-in passengers risk being waitlisted or unable to secure seats.
Halsema Highway road conditions: Halsema Highway is a national road but is narrow, winding, and prone to landslides, fog, and poor visibility, especially during the rainy season (June–October).

Buses travel slowly and carefully on this section, which is why travel time from Baguio to Bontoc alone is 3–4 hours for a distance of approximately 150 kilometers.

Nighttime and early morning temperatures can drop to 10°C–15°C or lower.

If your final destination is Sagada, do not book a bus directly to Sagada from Cubao (these are rare and less reliable); instead, take the bus to Bontoc and transfer locally.
